Do you wonder what that big container sitting on the green (white) grass across from Willow park is?
The following is from the CAO Report, dated December 3, 2024:
“Rec Hub
The bike share sea can that is the home of our new Rec Hub has been delivered. The new Rec Hub, located at 282 Main Street, across from Willow Park, will house the Town’s new equipment loan program, featuring 20 new bikes and many helmets.
The hub’s equipment loan program is intentionally launching with new bicycles as an important part of Wolfville’s active transportation development project. Wolfville’s Active Transportation Network will see more than 10 kilometres of routes created throughout the community in the years ahead.
The new bicycle fleet features many electrified models plus a specialized e-trike with bench seating to ensure every member of our community will have an opportunity to get around Town on the new network, that is being developed for all ages and abilities of users.
The recreation hub is housed in a former sea can and will be wrapped with bright graphics. During the warmer weather, staff will work from the space, coordinating equipment loans and group programming to get everyone comfortable with the idea of rolling and strolling along the active transportation network.
More details will be announced throughout the winter months with the official launch happening in the spring

Included in every monthly committee of the whole council meeting agenda package is a CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) report. Each CAO report contains a wealth of information about the governance of the Town.
The following is a link to the November 12, 2024 agenda package:
The CAO reports that the participation rate at the recent Town election was 49.1% compared to 37% in 2012 and 31% in 2016 and 48% in 2020.
Under a portion of the report entitled “Water Utilities” the following appears:
“Numerous administrative deficiencies have been identified by NSECC [Department of Environmental and Climate Change ] and are slowly being worked through by EPW [Engineering and Public Works]. Deadlines and targets set by the department for corrections have not been met.“
The Report does not say what were the deadlines and targets that were not met? and why?
Regarding the Front Street Community Oven, the Report states:
“Staff supported the Front Street Community Oven offering Thursday Night Cookouts throughout spring, summer and fall, with great success. Over 150 guests were welcomed on some nights, with an average attendance of well over 100.”
Under “Development” the Report states: “Grocery Store (Independent) expansion is being considered through site plan approval.“
Finally, the COW agenda package, beginning at page 43, contains a lengthy up-to-date Information Report regarding the Robie Tufts encampment. As of the date of the report, November 11, 2024, “[t]here are now five people and two pets; three of these people stay overnight consistently and two inconsistently.”
Beginning at page 7 of 10, the IR sets out four options: “Four options have been identified here by Staff so Council has an opportunity to discuss and understand our circumstances and clear direction can eventaully be provided.”
